World Rally Championship

Earlier this summer Borovets hosted the World Rally Championship. The route of the race near Borovets is very compact and goes through some beautiful scenery. The Rally has total length of 1068,30 km with 14 Special Stages (353,34 km) all in asphalt. The winner of this years rally was Sebastien Loeb. Former F1 star Kimi Raikkonen also took part in the race.



Ikea

Construction has begun on the first IKEA hypermarket in Bulgaria. It is located on the Ring Road in Sofia and has a space of over 28,000 square meters. This project is estimated to create around 800 jobs. The hypermarket will open its doors to the public in late 2011. IKEA has announced plans to build two more stores in Bulgaria, one in Varna and one in Plovdiv.

Chamkoria Chalets - Construction Update

Construction of the apartments and chalets at Chamkoria Chalets complex has been completed so it is an exciting time. We hope you have enjoyed following our construction updates and viewing the photos. You can see our final construction update photos here.

We are looking forward to welcoming our first guests at the complex and enjoying the first ski season. We would like to thank all our clients and we wish them well in their new apartments & chalets.

Ryan Air Launches Flights to Bulgaria

Ryan Air has launched a new route from London Stansted to Plovdiv. Plovdiv is only 1.5 hours from Borovets so it is a good alternative to Sofia airport. The flights commence in early November and are scheduled twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The low-cost airline Wizz Air, who launched new routes earlier this summer from Sofia to Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt and Bologna, are now also considering launching flights to Plovdiv. Wizz Air currently holds 11% of the Bulgarian aviation market, preceded only by the national carrier Bulgaria Air.

Borovets Bike Park

Borovets resort created their first official mountain bike trails this summer. The mountain bike park was formally opened on July 3rd and it offers over 20 km of marked trails for mountain biking with different levels of difficulty making suitable for everyone. The opening event including advanced bikers performing stunts for the spectators.

The ski lifts which bring you up to the top of these bike trails have been altered to allow the bikes to be attached to the side of the lift. Borovets Mountain Bike Park has commented that they intend or make some improvements and new routes next year and to host other festivals and competitions.
